Latest Issue of Divorce Magazine is Here!

divorceDivorce Magazine’s winter/spring 2012 edition features an important and timely look at how individuals going through divorce can transform their negative thoughts into positive insight, and use that new awareness to make wise and compassionate decisions during divorce.

I believe positive attitude, emotional well-being and mental clarity are three keys to making the right decisions during divorce. And it’s not just the health, happiness and financial stability of divorcing spouses at stake. It’s also the children, who are watching their parents to see how they should act and react to what’s happening. Studies show that it’s often not divorce itself that harms children and leaves lasting emotional wounds, but it’s how parents behave towards each other, and how they conduct themselves, that has the biggest impact.

With respect to children and divorce, the edition also features a penetrating exploration of how to deal with parental alienation in court and at home. The article was written by Judge Michele Lowrance, a sitting domestic-relations judge in the Circuit Court of Illinois. “I have been a judge on the divorce bench for 16 years, and have watched the wreckage of the corrosive legacy of parental alienation and visitation interference play out over decades,” Judge Lowrence writes. “We have no statistics for measuring this group, because the victims are too vast. But the concentric circles include the children, their children and the extended family as well. The declaration of war by one parent on another creates radioactive fallout, which contaminates for generations.”
